“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to provide a testimonial for David and Southern Star Coaches … I have had the pleasure of dealing with them as the social secretary for our Village and organising eight or nine day tours per year, together with my wife and I being guests on a number of extended tours offered by them. On all of the extended tours we have been on we have been provided with excellent accommodation and meals, with fantastic destinations and attractions.”

Broken Hill is the famous and fascinating mining town in remote Western New South Wales. Beyond the Darling River in remote western New South Wales is the iconic and legendary mining town of Broken Hill. Dominating this town is the “Line of Lode” – the seven kilometre strip of what was the biggest deposit of silver, lead and zinc in the world. Unlike modern mining towns, where the accommodation is built well away from the mine activities, Broken Hill’s population, in the pick and shovel days, built their houses as close as they could to their work. No trip to Broken Hill would be complete without a visit to the Jack Absalom Gallery, Pro Hart Gallery, and the famous Palace Hotel where scenes from Priscilla Queen of the Desert were filmed.

No better, or prettier time to visit Canberra than in the Spring. Pretty when the city bursts with the colours of Floriade. The idea of Floriade was that of Christiaan Slotemaker de Bruine who was a landscape architect for the government, and wanted to do something magnificent to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Canberra in 1988. The Floriade display is the largest of its type in the Southern Hemisphere with over 150,000 annuals including 65,000 tulips and 20,000 daffodils. Whilst in the Nation’s capital at this time of the year it would be remiss if we didn’t continue with our floral holiday and also visit the Tulip Time festival in the Southern Highlands. No trip to Canberra would be complete without a visit to both, the old, and the new Parliament Houses, the National Museum and the Australian War Memorial for the Last Post Ceremony. To cap off this amazing tour we also partake in a truly unique opportunity and experience a guided tour of the gardens of Government House.

Boasting some of the cleanest air in the world, Tasmania is a plethora of diversity – misty rainforests, craggy mountains, wild river rapids, wide grazing lands and clean uncrowded beaches. The wilderness, together with its huge array of fresh produce is at the heart and soul of Tasmania. Cradle Mountain to South West Cape is the World Heritage listed area of more than 1.4 million hectares. Our fantastic tour sees us arrive at Devonport and base ourselves in Launceston in the north for a couple of nights before making our way to Hobart in the south. The second European settlement in Australia was Hobart in 1804, and it still embraces a rich architectural heritage providing a fascinating insight into a bygone era. Our time in Hobart will see us visit and explore Port Arthur where the darker side of Australia’s earlier life emerges, whilst the historic villages provide a feeling of stepping back into time to a more genteel era of gracious sandstone and cricket on the village green. Great news, we are in Hobart on a Saturday which means we can wander and explore Tasmania’s most visited tourist attraction, the Salamanca Markets … a must do when in Hobart.

Described by the locals as “the best place on earth” the tiny island of Norfolk Island in the South Pacific is defined by its pine trees, jagged cliffs and rich history. With its World Heritage listed buildings, sublime scenery, unique culture and intriguing past make Norfolk Island one of Australia’s most fascinating destinations. Settled by descendents of mutineers who speak a mix of Tahitian and 18th century English, it’s a friendly place where waving to everyone you pass is mandatory, cows have right of way and everyone knows everyone else. It’s the only place in the world where the telephone book lists people under their nicknames, such as Book and Bing, Diddles, Pinky, Spud, Lettuce Leaf and Slugs. Of course with so much to see and do you need to look at our full itinerary to see all the amazing things we will be doing, but one of the many highlights is a progressive dinner where we travel with our local guide as they take us to the homes of some of the locals providing a different course in each of their homes.

THURSDAY 30 DECEMBER 2021 – SUNDAY 4 JANUARY 2022
Celebrate the coming of the new year in the beautiful ‘city of churches’ Adelaide … we will arrive in Adelaide the day before New Year’s Eve ensuring we are well rested the next day for our NYE dinner in our specially reserved seats in a restaurant right on the Torrens River. We will have prime position to view the spectacular 9.00pm fireworks on the river and over the city skyline. Adelaide and the surrounds have so much to offer and our tour will include a guided tour of Adelaide taking in such places Montefoire Hill, and Adelaide’s most visited tourist attraction, the Adelaide Central Market. We will also visit the bayside suburb of Glenelg with its long sandy beaches and alfresco inspired lifestyle before making our way to Port Adelaide for a lunchtime cruise. No visit to Adelaide would be complete without a trip up the highway to the majestic Barossa Valley ... we will visit the Whispering Wall, a curved retaining wall of the Barossa Reservoir that provides a unique ‘acoustic experience’. We’ll visit the heritage town of Tanunda and the historic, family-owned winery of Seppelsfield Wines. To add to this already fantastic tour we will make our way home to Melbourne with an overnight stay in Mt Gambier where we will get to take in some of what it has to offer. What a fantastic way to see in 2022 … book early to avoid disappointment.
