BOURKE & OUTBACK NSW – 6 DAY TOUR
BOURKE & OUTBACK NSW – 6 DAY TOUR
MONDAY 21 TO SATURDAY 26 JUNE 2021
We might not be heading to the ‘back of Bourke’ but we’ll certainly be heading in to outback NSW and on to the township of Bourke. Once a major 19th century river port and trading post, Bourke is an inviting outback town on the banks of the Darling River. Bourke is well noted for its historic landmarks, such as the blacksmith’s workshop from the Cobb & Co stagecoach days, Carrier’s Arms Hotel and Bourke Courthouse where bushranger Captain Starlight was charged after his capture in 1868.
And even though we are not at the back of Bourke we will visit the Back O’ Bourke Exhibition Centre, where we hear tales of early exploration and the paddleboat trade, and learn about the Aboriginal people of the region, farmers, stockmen, bush poets, bushrangers and Afghan cameleers. Legendary Australian poet Henry Lawson lived in Bourke in the 1890s.
